Currently, a total of 500 employees (m/f/d) work for Pegasus and Pontos Shipping S.à r.l. both on land and on board its vessels. With a fleet of around 50 vessels, both companies specialize in the inland transportation of chemicals, liquefied gases, and petroleum products in Europe.

Apprenticeship as an Inland Waterway Skipper (m/f/d)

Come aboard our modern tanker fleet and lay the foundation for your career in inland navigation. With us, you will receive comprehensive practical training on the waterways of Europe.

  • Transporting goods on our modern tankers
  • Working on the waterways of Europe
  • Supporting the crew in loading and unloading as well as in steering and navigating
  • Cleaning, maintenance and servicing work on the ship and the engine systems
  • Familiarising yourself with the ship’s steering, charts, nautical instruments, and navigation systems
  • Working closely with onboard inland waterway personnel to ensure the vessel is in good working order
  • Graduation from high school (at least a secondary school diploma)

Training as an Inland Ship Captain (m/f/d)

Do you want to lay the foundation for your career during your training and take on responsibility at an early stage? Then join one of our tankers and get to know the waterways of Europe as a prospective captain.

  • Transportation of goods on our modern tankers

Sailor (m/f/d)

Join our team as a Sailor or Inland Waterway Skipper. As a fundamental part of our crew, you will ensure that everything runs smoothly on board and that we achieve our goals together.

  • Carrying out cleaning, maintenance, and repair work on the ship 
  • Work under the supervision and instruction of the respective skipper, 2nd skipper or helmsman
  • Carrying out loading and unloading operations
  • Assistance during mooring, berthing and anchoring manoeuvres
  • Completed training as an inland skipper, a similar licence or corresponding sailing time as a member of a deck crew (incl. skipper’s service record book)
  • Ability to work in a team, reliability, flexibility, resilience

Skipper (m/f/d)

As a skipper you are the brain of our ships and have the general responsibility for the entire ship operation. Do you like to take responsibility and would like to lead your crew and our company to success with teamwork? Then welcome on board!

 

  • Planning all activities on board (e.g., shifts and navigation watch on board)
  • Coordinating with the chartering departments and the ship owner regarding voyage orders
  • Planning orders, voyage route, restrictions, unloading depth etc.
  • Preparing the stowage plan including stability calculation and reports regarding irregularities and incidents
  • Planning and executing all loading and ballasting operations
  • Planning tank cleaning activities as well as monitoring of bunker activities
  • Observing all safety measures, legislation, and laws as well as traffic regulations
  • Instructing the crew on work to be performed and equipment to be used
  • Discussing repair work with the ship owner
  • Updating BargeControl
  • Relevant education and experience
  • Rhine license up to at least Mannheim
  • Corresponding ADN certificate of proficiency
  • Good knowledge of German/Dutch
  • Strong sense of responsibility, thoughtfulness, and decision-making skills

Helmsman with licence (m/f/d)

As a qualified Helmsman, you will be the leading member of our crew and will be responsible for the operation of the ship during your shift – on behalf of the Shipmaster. You will be responsible for performing all tasks independently, you will oversee navigation on certain routes and demonstrate a strong commitment to teamwork.

  • Responsibility for cargo operations and navigation (on the instructions of the skipper)
  • Cleaning, maintenance and repair work of the ship and the machinery in cooperation with the sailors
  • Carrying out cargo tank cleaning and mooring operations
  • Observance of safety measures, legislation, and laws as well as traffic regulations
  • Relevant training and experience
  • Rhine license up to at least Mannheim
  • Ability to fill in and interpret ADN checklist
  • Good knowledge of German/Dutch

As a Helmsman without a licence you are a leading member of our crew and are responsible for the operation of the ship during your shift – on behalf of the skipper. You will carry out all necessary work independently, you will be in charge of navigation on certain routes and you will demonstrate your strong commitment to teamwork.

  • Responsibility for cargo operations and navigation (on the instructions of the skipper)
  • Cleaning, maintenance and repair work of the ship and the machinery in cooperation with the sailors
